An E.V.I.L. Production (Evoking Voracious Inspirational Leaps)

This fic has a backstory nearly as long as it is at this point (and it's still unfinished). It has been known by several different epithets throughout its long history, including The Fic That Shall Not Be Named. (ruh-roh...)

quillaninc and I were chatting with mendax one fine Sunday, and Quill happened to mention this fic - and the art that she'd prepared for it, against the day when it finally got posted. The way Quill and I bantered about it, calling it TFTSNBN, intrigued mendax, and she requested it for her next bit in the Year o' Fic she bought last year.

Urk! thinks I. I suppose I'd better see if I can round up those old, grey-beareded plot bunnies...

Because this fic has been variously actively worked on and (mostly) stalled to a dead stop since about 2002, when mendax first entered the following idea in the Plot Bunny Adoption Center on the Vying group on Yahoo!: (Blame Cowboy Bebop/Trigun/Firefly) Voltron the Western. Plunk the boys into those classic archetypes -- the sheriff/cowboy/gunslinger/gambler/bartender/prostitute/rancher/whathaveyou .

So I did. It started off as something mostly camp and fun... and, because it's me, it quickly morphed into the usual angst-ridden mess I usually write. Ah, well. Maybe, when it's finished, Quill's art (long since finished, to my eternal shame) will bring back that spark of humor.

Anyway - my dear forest, here you go, the first part of your long awaited Western fic. *hugs* This first part doesn't include many of your listed archetypes, but they'll mostly all be filled in the later bits (some of which have been written but must be re-written).

Title: The Westward Journey (rough working title)
Fandom: Voltron - Lions
Characters: As many as I can cram in All main, eventually
Pairing: Lance/Keith (eventually)
Rating: Solid R for violence and death
Notes: Extreme AU.  No names (with one notable exception) in these sections.  Fictionalized accounts of actual people.  Also, a minimum of internet research, so any accuracy (yay, Wikipedia) is probably strictly accidental.

Oh, mendax, I love your prompts. I know that I mentioned to you in email that my mind dove right to the gutter for this prompt, but I didn't quite make it to the smexing, for which I do grovel. In my head, though, there was copious amounts of smut involved. ^^

#:-S *whew* Under the wire! Tomorrow I'll be in Blandford with the 'rental units, dragging the bf along with me by main force. On the plus side, my mom will feed us, so it's not all bad. ^^

So, here is mendax's first request for her Year o' fic. She requested something in the In Ale Veritas 'verse originally created by me and joannindiw. mendax then wrote an inadvertant sequel (because she was watching as we were writing it). After that, quillaninc and I started working on a sequel to the sequel (though it hasn't been edited, polished and published just yet... *wince*), and quillaninc has got some sequels to the sequel to the sequel waiting on her hard drive somewhere.

History lesson aside, this fits in just after mendax's fic, and just before the Q&r sequel.

Really. No matter what you were looking for, this isn't it.

quillaninc asked me some time ago if I wanted to play in her IK'verse, and I said that'd be cool! However, the muse has yet to find a plotbunny to suit. I keep tempting, the muse keeps refusing. It's a vicious circle.

However, because Quill is E.V.I.L. (as much as joannindiw, believe it or not!), she was handing out plotbunnies like Halloween candy last Sunday... and this is the result. One of these days, I swear, I'm going to hand one of those plotbunnies that won't be denied (you know, the kind I'm always dealing with) to both JoAnn and Quill, and then maybe I can sit back for a while.

Oh, all right. I'm not really bitching about it; I did have fun writing it. ^^
